Nymeo Field – Home of the Frederick Keys

The Frederick Keys and Winston-Salem Dash opened the 2015 season with the Dash taking three out of four games, but on Tuesday, the Keys came out victorious scoring early and holding on late to a 12-10 win.

Frederick sent starter Jhonathan Ramos to the mound against Dash righty, Robinson Leyer.

After escaping a rally in the first inning, the Keys came out swinging in their half of the first as they scored five runs on six hits highlighted by a two-out two run single by Anthony Caronia, plating Adrian Marin and Steel Russell.

Winston-Salem got one back in the top of the second when Omar Narvaez, who had a one-out single, scored on a two-out single by Keenyn Walker.

The Keys responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the second when Jeff Kemp launched his second home run of the season over the center field fence.

The bottom of the third saw the Keys continue to add runs as they plated three on an RBI single by Jeff Kemp, and a two-RBI double by Orioles top prospect Drew Dosch scoring Tucker Nathan and Kemp.

The Dash would add a run in the top of the fifth on a home run by Cleuluis Rondon and the Keys would answer with one in the bottom of the sixth, with Brenden Webb scoring on a ground out to make the score 10-2.

But Winston-Salem was not done as they tacked on seven runs in the top of the seventh to pull within 10-9. The key hits were a grand slam home run by White Sox top prospect Trey Michalczewski and a three-run home run by Nick Basto.

The Keys added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI-single by Dosch and a passed ball by catcher Narvaez scoring Kemp to make the score 12-9. Frederick scored one more run in the top of the eighth as Walker scored on a Michalczewski ground out, but they would not get any closer.

Keys reliever Cody Wheeler (2-0, 1.74) pitched the ninth and shut the door by striking out the side to preserve the 12-10 Keys victory.
